Our platform is about restoring trust in the political process so voters accept the policy choices that result.

Policy ideas become reality when three elements converge:

Problems: too much of something undesirable, too little of something desirable, declining trends, etc.
Solutions: broad consensus among experts that a specific idea is the most appropriate action to address a particular problem – in light of competing alternatives.
Politics: sufficient willingness among political leaders to enact any given solution.

Political gridlock prevents the window of opportunity from opening for ideas with broad support to get enacted. Today, we have a backlog of solutions that are sitting on bookshelves collecting dust or stored on web servers around the world.

The California Moderate Party will create more windows of opportunity for solutions to be enacted by building and sustaining a diverse political coalition that’s willing to put governing ahead of winning.

Whether it’s a lack of political will or the power of special interest groups, the good ideas identified on these pages have yet to reach a tipping point – even though they originate from independent and respected organizations that experts trust.

There’s something for everyone to like and for everyone to not like. But taken as a complete package, there’s plenty of room for compromise. If everyone gives a little, we can all get a lot. Let’s get to work!
